Doubles Tournament – Wednesday 21st August 2024
Congratulations to Henry for winning the Doubles Tournament. The final with Avi, Shumon and Ashok in the group was particularly hard fought. A good fun evening for everyone involved.
How the Club’s Doubles Tournament works
Our Doubles Competitions work as follows. On the evening of the competition all members are allocated randomly into groups of 4 players as they enter the hall. Each player pairs up with another in their group to play the others in the group in turn. So everyone plays 3 consecutive games in a group with a different partner. Whoever scores the most points in their 3 games is the winner and moves on to the next round. Depending on the number of members playing on the evening some 2nd placed players can also go into the next round. This continues until the final 4 players battle it out to be the club’s Doubles Champion in the final round. The winner takes home the club’s Doubles Trophy.
There will be no visitors on the evenings that we hold the club’s competitions. The 3 games in a group are played consecutively on the same court. One of the players in each group will be nominated to keep track of the scores of the finished games and should give the organiser the scoresheet as soon as the group has completed all its 3 games.
Have fun!
Doubles Tournament – Wednesday 20th December 2023
A big congratulations to Shumon for winning the club’s Doubles Tournament. He now holds both the Singles & Doubles titles for the club! Congratulations also to the others who reached the closely fought Final – AVI, Ashok & Praveen. There were also some surprise results with several players scoring well ahead of some strong established league players in their group stages! So congratulations to everyone who took part and made it a competitive but friendly tournament.
Singles Tournament 5th July 2023
The results of the club’s Singles Tournament are shown below. There was a Group stage where everyone wanting to participate was put into one of three groups. To speed up the competition these games were played to 11 points. The top players from each group then played in the Final, playing each game to the normal 21 points. This proved particularly taxing with most players starting to wilt as the evening progressed. The last game played in the Final was against Shumon and the previous winner, Praveen. Both had won all their other games in the Final group up to that point. The game was closely fought eventually finishing at 11:00 pm in Shumon’s favour! Congratulations to Shumon & well done to everyone reaching the Final. Even in the Group stage there were many high-class tough Singles games played. Trustfully everyone enjoyed taking part.

16th February 2022
This year’s club’s Double Tournament which started on the 5th January with the Final being contested on the 9th February was particularly hard fought. Congratulations to Pranay for winning – photo below receiving his trophy. A close second was Kam with Prince & Mukesh being the other finalists. Well done to everyone who participated. The next club Tournament will be the Singles Competition on Wednesday 4th May.
8th January 2022
After a long break (thanks Covid!) we are going to be organising a series of coaching sessions again with William Lie. The coaching will be on a similar basis as previously, namely for 1 hour for 4 players at a time, starting at either 8:00 pm or 9:00 pm on the following dates:
Wednesday 2nd Feb 2022
Wednesday 23 Feb 2022
Wednesday 2nd March 2022
Wednesday 23 March 2022
This gives players the opportunity to put into practice what William will have taught you before the next coaching session. This method has proved popular and has been appreciated and enjoyed by everyone who has taken part before. The club is subsidising the cost of the coaching. So the cost for the four coaching sessions is £30 per member.
For those in particular who have not had professional coaching before, I would strongly urge you to consider taking up this offer. Not only is William Lie an accredited Badminton England coach but he is also the most popular & friendly coach we have used.
If after committing to the coaching you find that you cannot make a particular date for any reason, we will try our best to put in a substitute so that you would get reimbursed for that session.
So, if you feel professional coaching will benefit your play, then can you please let me know ASAP. Only the first 8 responders will be guaranteed entry into this coaching scheme.
Please feel free to chat to any members who have previously had coaching or speak to me to discuss any queries you may have about the coaching.
15th December 2021
On Wednesday 5th January 2022 we will be having a Doubles competition open only to Members.
Everyone who turns up by 8:00 pm on the night will be put into a group of 4 players. As in previous competitions, each player will play 3 consecutive games, pairing up with one of the others against the other 2 in the group in turn. The total number of points at the end of the three games is then added up & whoever has the most points wins that group & progresses to the next round. Depending on the number of groups, in the first round the 2nd placed player may also progress to the next round.
This will continue until we have just 4 players in a final grouping.
There is the club’s Doubles Trophy to be won!
